Holistic wellness at Brookridge

When most people hear the word “Wellness,” they think of nutrition and exercise, maybe even stress management and sleep hygiene, but here at Brookridge we know that wellness is so much more than these physical elements.
We must also consider the other dimensions of wellbeing, including our social connection, financial management, environmental influences, emotional support, and spiritual development.
Two years ago, when Dana Reynolds was hired as Wellness Director at Brookridge, she brought clinical and holistic wellness initiatives to campus.
“We work better as a team, so I’ve partnered with our administration, Chaplain, Social Workers, Clinical staff, and outside vendors to create a multi-faceted wellness program,” Dana said.
One way to focus on these points, said said, is to use the National Wellness Calendar to honor and support each monthly theme. For example, February is Heart Health month, May is about women’s health and June is about men’s health.
Dana does so much more than just leading fitness classes. She teaches healthy cooking (everyone loves a smoothie!), brings in informational presentations, and even partners with The Humane Society for Woof Walks with dogs. This is just a small sample of the wellness activities available at Brookridge.
“People ask me about the wellness calendar – ‘Why is it so busy?’” she said, answering simply: “So there’s something for everyone.”
On the upcoming January calendar, there are classes and workshops aplenty, including several special events promoting healthy brains for January’s Brain Health wellness theme.
“Finding fun, informative, and engaging ways to share information with our residents is my priority, so I strive to continue learning, growing, and shifting my approach to supporting everyone in sustaining their health, happiness, and quality of life,” Dana said.
